Farside for Young People
The Farside is an inter-church charitable organisation that puts on bi-monthly youth celebrations for young people with between 150 to 200 young people attending from around 30 different churches from Poole, Wimborne, Bournemouth and the Purbeck areas. It also runs a number of practical projects including outreach on Turlin Moor, support for CU’s and alternative youth events.
In March they held their AGM at St Dunstan’s Upton which was attended by 21 people representing 13 different churches/ Christian organisations with a good representation from young, middle and older age people!
With the business out of the way those attending were split in to small groups and asked to suggest ways forward for the work of The Farside. Suggestions included:
· Booking well known national speakers
· Open air celebrations
· Weekend celebration with stop over
· Develop D.J. led youth events appropriate venues
· Fun days
· Schools outreach
· Farside touring team round churches
· Develop links with chaplains/ Pastoral care workers/ Youth clubs/ Scouts/Guides/ Boys Brigade/ PACE/ Police
· Develop further outreach such as with Resound Bus project Hot Cross Bun tour and Real Christmas events
· Develop the Facebook and Farside web sites
· And much more!
The meeting proved to be a fun and very helpful way to develop the ministry of The Farside and anyone wanting to find out more about the work, volunteer for the management group or assist in other ways should contact Simon & Cathy Harwood on 01202 661373 or e-mail pooleyouth@btconnect.com
